Barnes & Noble has just dropped the price of their popular e-reader, increased the screen size and added a touch screen, apparently trying to squash Kobo's advantage.

Value of YA Lit

The first sentence alone is the best thing I've read for a long time about YA literature. Definitely worth reading this thoughtful and short essay. 

Great Gatsby cast looks awesome!

Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carroway.....this could be GREAT!!

Cloud Atlas: Coming to a Screen Near You!

David Mitchell's novel is coming to the screen and will feature Tom Hanks and Susan Sarandon, among others. Looks like it's got a big budget and some great people signed on.

Guess I'd better read that book.....

Motherland, the next chapter

 If you remember, in Motherland, young Edith made a good friend, Gertie,  on the ship coming to America. After a couple of weeks of hanging out together, they were separated and never had contact again. That is until a group of Naperville 8th graders, after hearing Fern speak about her mother, decided to try to track down Gertie. The Facebook generation didn't understand the concept of losing track of someone, so they went to work and found Gertie.

This blog details the story of the kids, their search, their resources (the library, of course!) and the reunion after 73 years of these women who met when they were the age of the Naperville students.

This is a story that will bring tears to your eyes.
